A&E kicks off the original real-life series "Runaway Squad," following former NYPD detective Joe Mazzilli and his team of private investigators, who track, rescue and reunite runaways with their families. The seven episode series will feature a special one-hour premiere on Monday, April 5 at 10 PM ET/PT on A&E followed by back-to-back half-hour episodes each week.
"Joe Mazzilli is a true New York character and a real-life superhero," said Robert Sharenow, Senior Vice President, Nonfiction and Alternative Programming, A&E. "The extraordinary passion and commitment that he and his team display on a daily basis is incredibly inspiring and something we believe our viewers will truly connect with."
Each year in the US, more than 1.6 million youths run away from home. Although thousands of runaways are killed or die out in the streets, most overburdened police departments don't have the resources to meet the parents' pleas to find them. That's where former NYPD detective Joe Mazzilli and his team step in. On an on-going, pro bono basis, this dedicated squad tracks and rescues runaways - often extracting them from dangerous situations - and brings them back to their families. With a combination of investigative techniques and connections, street smarts and dogged manhunt experience, the "Runaway Squad" works hard to find these young adults before it's too late. Each search begins with the parents, as Mazzilli carefully evaluates them to be sure the squad is returning the runaway to a safe and loving home. Whether the runaway is in danger due to drugs, sexual assaults or prostitution, the team is under intense pressure to find these young adults as quickly as possible and mend the damaged emotional ties between the runaways and their loved ones.
In the one-hour series premiere, Mazzilli and his team are contacted by the mother of a 15-year-old runaway who has been missing for nine months. Tayvela may have felt trapped in her Long Island home by her over-protective, but well-meaning, mother. When the team discovers that a gang may be holding her against her will, they turn up the heat and do all they can to find her.
Mazzilli, a former NYPD detective, worked for years undercover infiltrating the mob, and headed the efforts of the NYPD's Pimp Squad during the dark days of the 1970s. It was while arresting pimps that he witnessed first-hand the fate of many runaways, who ended up abused, exploited, addicted to drugs, and sometimes dead. After retiring from the force, he dedicated a large portion of his private investigation firm's time and resources pro-bono to saving runaway teenagers and helping them reconcile with their distraught families. Mazzilli also started a not-for-profit organization, the Runaways Assistance Program (R.A.P.), which aims to enlist retired law enforcement or private investigators on a pro-bono basis to volunteer their investigative services to find runaways. The program will also offer ongoing support for the runaways after they are found. R.A.P hopes to enact laws to better serve and assist juveniles in the system and ensure that a recovered runaway can receive the appropriate evaluation and treatment for drug or behavioral problems in a secure facility.
"Runaway Squad" is produced by ITV Studios (formerly Granada America) for A&E Network. John X. Kim is executive producer and Alexis Robie and Mira Chang serve as series producers for ITV Studios. Joe Mazzilli serves as an executive producer. Executive Producers for A&E are Robert Sharenow and Laura Fleury.

A&E presents "Fugitive Chronicles," an original docu-drama series that cinematically brings to life the most compelling fugitive captures in recent history. Through gritty reconstructions, archival footage, fugitive narrative recreated from real testimony and exclusive taped interviews with law enforcement officials, each one-hour episode dramatically brings each infamous manhunt to life. "Fugitive Chronicles" premieres Thursday, April 1 at 10PM ET/PT on A&E.
At the heart of each gripping real-life manhunt will be the cinematic reconstruction of the exhaustive efforts that take place, often in very dangerous conditions, to find and bring a fugitive to justice. Told from the perspective of the hunter and the hunted, these dramatic true-life stories are told through exclusive interviews with law enforcement officials closest to the case and the fugitive's story based on real interrogation tapes, court transcripts and news footage. Officials will share exactly when they learned of the fugitive's flight, what their first course of action was and how they went about executing their heart-pounding takedown.
"This show pioneers a new genre of television because it artfully blends true-life narrative and scripted filmmaking," said Robert Sharenow, Senior Vice President of Nonfiction and Alternative Programming, A&E Network and BIO. "This innovative format will fit perfectly with A&E's slate of both real-life and scripted justice programming."
The nine-episode season of "Fugitive Chronicles" kicks off with prison escapee Ralph "Bucky" Philips, a career criminal who spent most of his life in and out of prison. His flight set off the most expensive manhunt in New York's history as Bucky led hundreds of state troopers on a cat and mouse chase through the towns and backwoods of western New York for the better part of five months. Captain Steve Nigrelli spearheaded the ground manhunt to catch him, and will never forget the horrific events of that summer. During his time on the run a host of extraordinarily lucky and reckless maneuvers allowed Bucky to remain free and the fugitive was able to thwart the high profile investigation for five months in 2006.

A&E has greenlit the new original scripted series "Sugarloaf" (working title) starring Australian actor Matt Passmore ("McLeod's Daughters," "Underbelly"), Kiele Sanchez ("Lost," "Samantha Who?") and Carlos Gómez ("Shark," "Sleeper Cell"). The series from Fox Television Studios will begin production on the 13-episode order in Miami this winter for a summer 2010 premiere.
In "Sugarloaf," Passmore stars as Jim Longworth, an attractive, brilliant, yet hard to get along with homicide detective from Chicago who after being wrongfully accused of sleeping with his former Captain's wife is forced into exile. Longworth relocates to Sugarloaf, a sleepy small resort town in the middle of nowhere on the Gulf Coast of Florida where the sunshine and golf are plentiful and crime is seemingly at a minimum. Yet life in Sugarloaf is not as beautiful as it may seem.
In the pilot episode, the easy life quickly falls by the wayside when a decapitated, unidentifiable woman is found in a creek, begrudgingly dragging Longworth off the golf course in pursuit of her killer. Complicating matters more is his relationship with Callie (Sanchez), a quick-witted, beautiful med student with a 12 year-old son and a husband in prison. With a Titleist sitting on the fourteenth fairway waiting for him to break eighty for the first time in his life, Longworth needles, cajoles, and harangues everyone in his path, including his golf partner and department medical examiner Carlos (Gómez), as he puzzles out the facts surrounding the mysterious killing to try and identify the victim and bring her killer to justice.
"Matt Passmore brings a fresh face and a vibrant presence to the American television landscape in this series," said Tana Nugent Jamieson, Senior Vice President, Drama Programming, A&E Network. "Sugarloaf is an exciting character driven series that marries the gritty style of a police procedural with the blue-sky backdrop of rural Florida. It's pure entertainment that will complement the network's current line-up of hit Real-Life series and off-net dramas."
"Sugarloaf" is produced by Fox Television Studios for A&E Network. The series will be executive produced by Clifton Campbell ("White Collar," "The Profiler," "21 Jump Street") and Gary Randall ("Saving Grace") for Grand Productions, Inc. The pilot was written by Clifton Campbell.
